Azure cloud backup for Azure File Shares enables a cloud backup platform for Azure file shares. Azure Backup service protects file share using Recovery Services vault. The backup service also helps you manage the backup of Azure Files Share as well as Azure IaaS VM. Let’s try to understand how to enable Azure Cloud backup for Azure File Shares and use it.
Creating Azure Recovery Service Vaults
From the Azure Portal, Search for Azure PaaS Service “Recovery Services Vaults“.
Create a new Azure Recovery Services Vault. Make sure you choose the same region where the current File Share is present.

Enable Azure cloud backup for Azure File Shares
Once the recovery vault is created, navigate to the dashboard. Select the “+ Backup” option to start with backup configuration.
To start with configuration for Azure file share backup, first, select the Azure File Share form the Backup goal. Workload must be selected as Azure, as we are currently taking Azure file storage backup.
Now, click on the “Backup” button to provide configuration details including Source, destination, and the backup policy.
Once all the configuration is done, enable the backup.
Review Azure File Storage Backup
Again, go back to Azure Recovery vault services dashboard and you will find one backup is enabled.
Click on the backup item to review the File Share backup.
